Resilience

How many times have you heard someone say “It’s not what happens to you but how you handle it that counts.” This is so true. How is it that some people can face endless tragedy and remain strong and able to cope, while others collapse in a heap over the smallest problem?

It has a lot to do with people’s thinking and the stories they tell themselves. The more people see the glass half empty the less likely they will be able to cope with life’s stresses. It is possible to develop strategies for becoming more resilient. This can be life changing. Often we are attached to beliefs about the way the world is that we don’t even realise we have. These can be unhelpful and can affect in huge ways the way we experience life. Being able to cope well can make us happier and healthier both in relationships, families and the workplace. And we will probably live longer.
