Happiness

What is happiness? Are you happy? All the time? A lot has been written about happiness. Some people believe that having more stuff will make them happy. They spend their lives trying to make more money, buy bigger houses, faster cars, longer holidays. What tends to happen is that while these things have a novelty factor, they do not have any lasting effects. Think of the glass of water analogy – when you are really thirsty that first glass of water is like pure nectar. The second is still pretty good. By the time you get to the tenth glass of water it is just a glass of water. In fact you have probably had more than enough of glasses of water!! The more often we do the things that we think will make us happy, the more likely it is that we will get to the stage where it seems like that 10th glass of water. We’re just not thirsty any more.

Goal setting can be useful for many reasons. For one thing, striving to reach goals can help us to strengthen personality traits that we need in order to move forward, such as persistence, determination, confidence and belief in ourselves. Be careful that you don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you will be happier when ……. When you have that new job, when you have got that promotion, bought that bigger TV.

How about focussing on what can make you happy RIGHT NOW!
